“Acceptional
Riders” Special Abilities Horsemanship Program is a Registered
Non-profit
Charity for physically
and developmentally challenged individuals to learn
horsemanship and riding
skills.
Horseback riding
is widely recognized as a beneficial form of therapeutic
recreation for special
needs individuals. It has been shown to develop self
awareness, build
confidence, improve self-discipline and concentration.
Horseback riding
also strengthens and relaxes muscles, can improve posture,
balance,
co-ordination while giving the rider a feeling of freedom,
independence and
achievement.
An instructor and
therapist team along with trustworthy and gentle horses strive
To ensure the
safety of riders as well as maximizing the physical and
developmental benefits.
Each rider will have their own volunteers specially
trained
to lead the horses and assist the riders by walking along side.

Here
we have Dan Mills, getting ready to ride Ginger. The
volunteers at Acceptional Riders are taught what each individual
rider's needs are, and then the program is adjusted for that
rider. Dan is carefully guided up out of his chair, up the
stairs and with just the right support, is up on his mount in no
time at all... Have fun Dan! |
